characters

  • dylan: bercouli tauron (dredge) – minotaur depths barbarian, born in a labyrinth. big and scary on the outside but a big softie really. became enchanted by the sea (and the kraken) from reading about it from tomes and journals left or taken from adventurers who entered his labyrinth. eventually word spread of a sea-obsessed minotaur in a labyrinth. a captain heard of him and decided he wanted him on his ship so dredge became the quartermaster on his ship.
    • shy but doesn’t want to be. outwardly stoic but internally very giddy and excited.
    • 500 is life expectancy of labyrinth minotaurs, dredge is 90ish (mid to late 20s of human equivalent)
  • sam: lophi – anglerfish (locathah) drakewarden ranger. raised in the sea in the city of octaria, parents were kelpie ranchers. was othered because of her anglerfish appearance (other locathah mostly look like tropical fish). exiled due to using mind altering anglerfish powers on fellow locathah. ran away with her kelpie bestie.
    • awkward and gangly and offputting. a lot of spines and anglerfish features. often looks out of place and hunched in on herself, especially when not in the water. quiet and observant at first, quite socially anxious. when more comfortable she’s a weird girl. prefers company of animals but will get very attached to humanoids.
    • young adult, 11 years old (human standard of around 20 or so)
    • octaria is known as octaria because of long standing ruling octopus family

the charybdis

  • captain: half-orc half-elf woman eris bullworth
    • child of rival houses who gave her a bunch of money to fuck off and be on a boat
    • sort of stede-esque (fancy boi)
  • first mate: tabaxi named birk (youngish) (25/24)
  • we probably hold middling officer roles (above the role of deckhand) and have been on board for at least a few months
  • cabin boy: flying monkey (brown tufted capuchin) named cheeser with a little spyglass
  • deck crew: mostly one family of ratfolk – the skeevers. 6 or 7 of them. eldest two: sir and miss. others: crust, bean, rosi (youngest)
  • no cook currently (recently lost)

barbaros

  • starting town, oft frequented by our crew
  • scummy town hiding in the shadow of a much larger whaling city
  • deep in a bay that doesn’t get hit quite so hard by the storms
  • searching for a cook and our next job
  • captain bullworth likes to go here because it makes her feel like a real pirate
  • seedy bar we hang out at: the whale’s wail

world

  • the sky gets darker the closer to the center of the sea. there is an icy center (about the size of a few states) to it that blocks sea travel across it
  • umbrea is the name the world is known by to seafarers but land folk likely have another name for it due to it not being shrouded in darkness for them
  • countries mostly consist of gatherings of islands, islands being somewhat equivalent to states
  • umbrea is a flat world
    • moon orbits over the sea and sun orbits over the land
  • common was a language developed by sailors
  • humans come from a single-island country with an oceanic climate called düchais (language: düchaiin)
  • dwarves come from morengo
  • elves and orcs from santiana (tropical highlands) (where eris is from)
  • the land is ancient and inherently powerful
  • deities: elements and their children, personified concepts (somnius - sleep itself (gigantic flat fuck on bottom of ocean))
